i have been looking for a unertl type scope to mount on my winchester model 52. it already has the mounting blocks for a scope of this style.

i can not find one of these that i can afford (all or 300+) are there any other companies that make a scope in this style that might be a lil on the cheaper side?

if so what are the model numbers?

    thanks

At one time, Tasco made a scope of the type you seek. It was model 705 Target scope with a recoil spring. The cost new was $199.95 This info from a 1977 Tasco catalog. You should be able to find one of these, maybe on gunbroker.com

IMOP, The Unertl is the best target scope ever made, followed only by the Lyman Targetspot. Unfortunately, as you have found they are expensive. My friends and I use them on our 200 meter offhand Schuetzen rifles. Your Winchester Model 52 is a fine rifle and deserves a top notch scope. I would save up until I could afford a Unertl or a Lyman.

Just took a Unertl 6X in on trade. Optics and all cross hairs are excellent. They are very clear and bright. Body and mounts are 95%. I like the looks of these on an old 52!

I would suggest either a Unertl or Lyman on that 52! Just a few bucks more to make it right. I have a Lyman Supertarget 25x and love it.

A good rifle deserves a good scope. There is no point in wasting time or ammo on cheap optics. Save your $s and wait and buy the bset you can find for it- you'll be happy you did in the long run.

I think $300 is a very low figure to expect to find a Unertl target scope. I've lusted for a 2" ultra Varminter with calibrated head for over 40 years and just a year ago found one with plain head for $350. This was a great buy. There are a few sizes and variations in Unertl scopes that you can find out about on the web. You will also find a dealer in target /varmint scopes who has a bunch of these for sale.
The company still exists in Mars, Pennsylvania.

I will join the crowd and recommend waiting for the real thing. I have shot my 52 with a Unertl for over 40 years. The two were meant to be together. It is an absolutley classic combination!

In addition to the Unertl and Lyman there were Litschert and Fecker scopes available in the 1940's and 1950's. Either Litschert or Fecker would fill the bill for you and would probably cost less than the Unertl.
They show up on ebay from time to time. Avoid buying one with problems as repair can be expensive.
