Old Bushnell Scopechief IV....is it a good scope??
I inherited my father's Savage model 99F .308 in fantastic shape with an old Scopechief IV 3x-9x scope. I KNOW the gun is good, but I know NOTHING about the old scope. It's in great shape, but is it a decent scope?? If it IS good, what is the value?
Thanks from the newbie.

The models, for their day, were very good scopes. If your's is till bright and clear it will serve you well. As for market value, it isn't all that much unless it is someone that like or collects the older scopes, say $50-75 at best, probably closer to $50 and it may take a while to get it sold unless your willing to go lower.
Me, I'd keep it just as it is on 3x you've got a good field of vision and can turn it up when the situation calls for it.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -

Bushnell was American made "back then" and while not comparable to say a Zeiss, it was not a cheap or shabby product.
They were good scopes. If yours is clear, leave it on the gun and enjoy it as is.

Back in the late 50's and early 60's, the ScopeChief sold for just under $100. Something like $98.96 or in that ball park. At this same time, the Leupolds were going for $102-$104 for their "Best." Just a little trivia as it is now only worth what someone will pay for it.....which is most cases is too little! If in good condition, enjoy it! It ranks up there with the Best made in those days!

Thanks for your help, everyone. The scope looks like new yet and is very clear. I took it out to the range (Brr. Only 10 degrees outside) and it stayed on target...so much so that I was shooting 1" groups at 100 yards! I'll leave the scope right where it is! Thanks again.
