Recommend bbl length for T/C .223
I'm looking for a scoped T/C Contender in .223 Rem. to shoot ground squirrels. Do you have a recommendation or preference for barrel length(10", 12", 14")?
Thanks

i'd go with the 16" , that way you can use a shoulder stock too. my 5 cents worth 0 -
I agree with 260. The .223 works best with a longer barrel.

I have one with a 10" with a 2 to 7 Burris scope that I like. The longer barrels do get better velocity, but get in the way going thru the woods. I also use one of the 22 long rifle inserts in mine as well. My pistol hits within 1/2" at 50 yards with either 55 gr 223 or a 40 gr 22lr. 0 -
If your strictly into pistol config. then a 14" bull profile and use std. to lighter bullet loads as the heavier bullets typically have trouble stabalizing in this length.
As suggested a "16" inch permits use in either carbine or pistol config. but you may have stabalization problems w/ heavier bullets unless you get one with a fast twist, and that would be a custom shop barrel or one made by a non-TC shop such as Brown or Virgin Valley or SSK ...
Me I have a 14" for general "potting" and a 23 inch custom for long range, heavier bullet shooting.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0
