On various AK or AKM rifles, some are chrome lined and others are not at times. My question is this. Is a chrome lined or non-chrome lined barrel deemed more accurate. Thanks!

It also negatively affects accuracy...not a good trade off in my book. I'd rather replace a barrel down the road. Just my .02

Pretty much all currently produced military rifles have chrome lined barrels. Most commercial or old surplus military rifles do not. For an automatic weapons that fires thousands of rounds on a battle field, being chrome lined is an advantage. Because accuracy, though important, isn't as important as reliability. Especially when your emptying a magazine at one target. I'm sure the military would have really appreciated chrome lined barrels back in the day when they were still using corrosive ammo.

I believe it is due to the hardness properties of the chrome lining that makes the barrels last longer. This is typically found in military weapnons such as the SKS, AK's, and military contract M-16/M-4 types among others. This also supposed to help against corrosion when these weapons are firing the corrosive and semi-corrosive ammunition.

It is supposed to degrade accuracy because of the lack of uniformity with with it is applied in the barrels.

The 7.7mm Japanese service rifle may have been the first . In Korea some of the PPSH41 barrels were chromed. Both stood up very well to corrosive ammo and wet weather.
From what I read in the early '60s the process was difficult but by now
    is widely practiced.
For best accuracy a stainless barrel is probably better.

Some,if not all, of the early Weatherby rifles had chrome lined barrels.
These were the ones produced in the 1940's and 1950's using commercial Model 98 Mauser and other actions.

Not to mention many shotguns also have chrome-lined barrels.

do rem 1187s or 870s have chrome lined barrels? how about Ruger Red Labels? With the accuracy not being a major issue are there any drawbacks for shotguns with chrome lined barrels?

No, no commercial Ruger Shotguns have chrome lined barrels. I've never seen an 870 or 11-87 with a chrome lined barrel from the factory either, but I have seen one completely industrial hardchromed.

My mistake, I ment to say electoless nickel plated, not industrial hardchromed in my last reply.

The remington 870 Marine Magnum is completely electroless nickel plated for corrosion resistance.

Beretta o/u have chrome lined barrels, I'm not sure on their auto loaders. It seems more popular on european (ie Italian ) shotguns.

I THINK the Benelli line is chrome lined, but I can't find that on thier site so I'm not sure. I do know the Ithaca/SKB line of autoloaders are chrome lined.
