guy I work with has his ffl and was willing to receive a shotgun I am thinking of buying. He says $10 and tax, I know the $10 is a good deal but since when do they have to collect sales tax. the gun is comming from iowa to wva, is he correct? 0 -
No you can send it to them without useing an ffl dealer. 0 -
No, you are not dealing in interstate commerce, you are having warranty work done. You may send it directly to the manufacturer or warranty station. For a handgun, you must use a common carrier. 0 -
well, thats good news, saves me some money....another question, then. How do you guys normally pack guns?

Yo shoey,I'll tell you how I do it. Pack it in a strong slightly larger box, bubble plastic and styro confetti. Send it fedex overnighter, NO AMMO and (NO mag.unless required) insure it, tell the fedex driver what it is and where it's going. Don't identify it on the package, write down all tracking no's and stay with it by phone and/or P.C..Upon return someone has to be home/business to sign for it they will not leave a firearm alone!!!!! Usually the service depot will have a preferred method for returns. Check w/ them, and also make sure that you do not need a Return Material Authorization (RMA) ... usually a number or alpha-numeric code, sometimes it is an actual sticker that they send you or they send you a printable version via email. One would think that the rep. you deal with would mention RMA but I've heard of more than one case where it was not brought up on initial cust. contact.
Also, they may have a preferred shipper ... just stay away from that $35 overnight crap it's just a rip off.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
If they don't have a preferred shipper, I use the USPS Insured for long guns if that is what this is. Cost is about $13. No external GUN labels. You may have to speak to the postmaster as most clerks are not versed at handling packages of this nature.
USPS Publication 52 explains everything.0 -
Sorry to say, but Fed ex left my USFA SAA on my front steps. No adult signature, nothing. Thankfully my neighbor saw it there for two days and tookl it in for me. If not I never would have know it was returned. I was very surprised at that. In the past they always left a notice if no one was at home. Tommygunn 0
