Bore Polishing
I would like to know if any one out there has heard of a product called "Tubb Final Finish Bore Conditioning System"? It is a set of diff. abrasive bullets designed to polish the barrel. I have a new unfired Browning Bar 300 WSM and I would like to know if it would be a good idea to use this product to condition my barrel or is it just going to screw things up? I have seen this product on Cabela's web site.

Follow a proper break-in proceedure,..there is no need for fire lapping.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
Got Balistics?0 -
Yes, this is fire lapping by another name. If you search back you'll probably find a bunch of threads on fire lapping. I have several magazine articles on the subject, and I'd be happy to copy a couple of the better ones and send them to you if you want to read up on it. I believe that, although it was claimed to be of significant benefit, it does nothing in the long run that won't eventually be accomplished just by shooting the rifle. In other words, it is accelerrated wear to obtain a smoother bore. 0 -
Fire the rifle using a breakin procedure of firing so many rounds then cleaning, firing so many rounds, cleaning ... repeat until you have at least a 100 rounds downrange. Through the process groups should nominally improve ... if they are bad to start with and show no sign of improving I'd suggest having a word with the mfg. and playing the "warranty" card.
I've not mentioned a specific number of rounds between cleanings because there are many different opinions on what the best number is. But I will say that as I progress the breakin I increase the number of rounds fired between cleanings.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0
