WHAT IS IT ? Ammended
I have a Smith and Wesson revolver. Marked .455. on one side and .455'.760 on the other side. On the top of the barrel it says Pat. Oct 8 1901 Dec. 17 1901 Feb 6 1906 I am wondering if anyone can help me with identifying this gun, the caliber, and if ammunition is still available for it?
Thank You,
Corren
PS does anyone know what its worth?

the cal. of your handgun is .455 webley. it is a british round. you can fire .45acp through it if you use half moon clips as the .455 was rimmed. if you can find some 45 auto rim you do not need the moon clips. accuracy might not be all that good however.you can still find 455 ammo, but its as high as a cats back. hope this helps, dave 0 -
From the patent dates on the barrel, it appears that you have 2nd Model Hand Ejector.
These were produced for both the British & Canadians during the early years of the First World War.
The ".455", is the cartridge it was chambered for ( standard military round used by English & Commonwealth troops)
Correct ammo is hard to come by. Do a search of the old threads on this forum, quite a few people were looking for it. You might get a tip on finding it?

As the.455 cartridge has a thinner rim then the .45 Colt, not sure that .45 auto would work with half moon clips?, If the revolver hasn't been converted?
In any case, if the revolver is factory original ( condition & finish ), it would have substantial value to a colector, and shouldn't be altered at this late date.

The Triple Lock .455 I had, had the rear part of the cylinder machined off to enable it to chamber .45 Colt. I had believed this was also required to function with half moon clips and auto rim also?
