To pay for a 1911?
I am offered a 1911, GI s/n 150ks, excellent inside and out, nickel plated with super real stag grips, arched mainspring housing, two magazines. I offered $400. Should I offer more? Comments appreciated.

No, offer less.
$400 is just about top dollar for a bubba-ized .45, especially if the barrel was plated or needs to be replaced for some other reason. Trust me, you'd be embarrassed to be seen shooting such an abomination. About the only thing you could do with it is have it stripped & parked (~ $200); you would then have a decent looking shooter (worth $600).

just make sure its not a presentation grade 45 before you parkerize it! it could have been built to present to a fellow on his retirement or something! tell us more about it!

yes we need more than "gi"
yep its me ,same one for 4 years now0 -
Little left to tell. The piece is in the estate of a man who passed at 76, gun said to have been property of his father. Former owner left a few other guns but nothing to indicate he was anything more than an infrequent casual shooter and maybe just a purchaser of opportunity. Pistol has a quality holster with a pouch for the extra mag on it. Nickel job is better than most in that care was taken in prep, edges kept sharp, etc. No nickel wear to be seen and bore perfect. S/n is in the 150000 range. If I get it I may de-nickel and refinish it, probably blue in that it could have been blued originally rather than parked. I like blue better. 0 -
rather than going thru the hassle of doing all of that refinishing and running up the tab, why not just sell it or let someone who likes nickle guns buy it? in other words, i'd pass on it. you can have parkerized gun elsewhere for the same cost with no work needed. shop around. just my 2 cents worth.

Here was your original discription

Everyone assumes you mean G.I. as in military ,this could mean the gun was made by colt,Remington rand ,union switch & signal , Remington-UMC , Ithaca, North American Arms, Springfield Armory, and Singer
Or GI stands for
Galena industries {AMT}
Goncz industries
Garbi industries
Gorosabel industries
Gunworks
The army issue alone can have several thousand dollar spread in value
Only definite information you have given so far was it is a 1911 nickel plated "GI"
they come in .45 ,.38super ,9mm,.22 lr ,and .40 S&W ,calibers
I will try again ,tell us more ,we need a manufacturer ,possible caliber
With the stag grips, arched mainspring housing, two magazines ,holster and pouch used ,you might give a hundred bucks for them combined since they are used and mostly are a type of cosmetic addition , so you are left to value the gun at 300.00 bucks

I guess I took a lot for granted. GI in this instance means Government Issue. A GI 1911 means .45ACP. 150K s/n means Colt (to me at least), a WWI piece. The de-nickel and refinish I would do myself as I have done on many pieces heretofore, but not on a 1911. I have never before seen stag grips as nice as these. Hope this helps and thanks to all concerned. I take it that $400 is about max to pay. 0 -
150xxx would mean a 1944 issue if it were Remington rand
150xxx in colt would be 1917
anyhow you look at it ,even if the finish wasn't original it would be what you are willing to pay ,if it was one I wanted I would go as high as 600.00 ,but at your price of 400.00 you wont get hurt any
