    You can cut some shims out of aluminum pop cans and add under the rear scope base to get more elevation adjustment. Ideally, the rings should be honed with a ring trueing tool (Midway sells the Wheeler kit) to assure no stresses are placed on the scope body. Have several sets of Milletts on my rifles and they true up nicely using this technique.

    sir, put a piece of brass shim stock under scope on the back mount.it wont take much, i.e. thickness, to make a difference.

    Model 70 in .223...Burris mini scope...Same problem..I used a folded aluminum foil shim. 15 yrs. later, it's still on the money. If anyone can see a drawback to this, please let me know...Deterioration, galvanic action??

    Thanks guys! The rings are steel - is there any chance of corrosion or something with the aluminum? Also any idea how much thickness in .000's to put under the scope and where would you get brass shim stock ? I live in a small town and don't have much selection. Thanks,

    Something is SERIOUSLY amiss. The 2-7x Leupold has over 70MOA of adjustment.

    Millet makes POS mounts,you could do little worse. Sad,but true. They have serious concentricity issues,poor quality fasteners and are pretty hard on scope tubes,as a rule.

    If wishing to yet incorporate your existing system,my advice is to mechanically center the scope's windage. Run the windage from one side to another,denoting the travel in MOA and divide by two.

    With the scope now mechanically centered,use the windage adjustment on the mounts,to ascertain a downrange zero.

    If your current setup has the scope cranked way off from it's mechanical windage center,it's elevation latitude is compromised. To get max adjustment inherent within the scope itself,the windage must be close to it's mechanical center,to allow full function of available elevation travel.

    Jumping right to shimming rings for height,can induce serious woes,unto the scope itself. A Weaver type base,mated with Burris Signature Zee rings(live center eccentrics),can correct serious maladies,all without scope damage/concern. You can shim the scope inside the rings themselves,with various sized polymer eccentrics,that will impart zero damage to the scope's body.

    My guess is that your windage is wayyyyy outta whack and robbing much elevation latitude. Look there first....................

    If you want inexpensive, just cut a shim out of an aluminum soda can (flavor of your choice), clean it and dry it and shape it with sissors....................[8D].

    here's a tidbit on using different metals. The term is dissimilar metal corrosion. It generally don't happen just from two metals touching. There has to be a corrosive or conductive medium for the corrosion to begin. If you live in a very high humidity location, there is a higher chance of it than if you live in the desert because the humidity (water) is a conductive medium...meaning that electrons can flow through it. Even though the chances are higher, it's still a very slim chance of causing any damage due to the fact that there is generally a protective coating <i.e.-blueing> that prevents direct metal to metal contact.

    Before you jump into try suggested "fixes" take it to a gunsmith. There's bound to be one within a reasonable drive from where you live. Let them look it over. You start doing things that you've never tried before and you can end up being very sad in the end, not to mention poorer from having to repair replace damage.



    If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!
