I myself have never had much luck with a 55 gr. bullet in the 222.A 50--52 gr. and IMR 4198 are hard to beat in my opinion.

Hickory, 21.5-22.8 grains of 3031 and the 55 ought to give you an acceptable load in the 222 but 20-22 grains of H322 and the 55's will get you some more velocity and also probably more accuracy! It's hard to find a BAD load in a 222!!! Good luck! GHD

Thanks for the input. I moved and have all my relosding equipment but can't locate my manuals. Also, I hadn't loaded the .222 in 15 years so I've forgotten what worked. I do have 4198 but it seemed like I always used 3031. I'll try the 21.5 thanks!!

Traditionally, IMR-3031 is too slow for use in the .222 Rem. The book loads will work O.K. and may be accurate to a point but you could encounter sooting and a very dirty, hard to clean barrel as a result of lack of pressure and incomplete burning of the powder charge. Velocities will also be sub-par.

    Best powders for the 222 Rem. are IMR-4198, H-4198, V V N-130, V V N-120, Re-10, AA-2015 and Norma 200.

Here is a reloading site that lists lots of tested loads and this link is for the .222 Rem.

    Best.

Have used BLC-2 for years with a Hornady 52 grain HP out front. Put anything down I pointed it at.GW.
