What's the background on this finish? Is is something that didn't catch on or is it still an option? Good or not-so-good? Reasons for either?

  I'm not sure if this is the Contender, your talking about? BUT, T/C brought one out years ago with a "plated" finish.
  
  The barrels and frame ot this model were not supposed to be interchangeable with the conventional blued Contender's.
  
  I never could figure out the rational, behind this?
  
  Don't believe they stayed in production long?

  Give Thompson a call I believe they will intrechange even though most people say no.
