Holster material, Leather or something better?

At most any decent gun show you will find the guy with all the holsters, luggage, gun cases etc. Those guys have ballistic nylon holsters from about $6 to $12 that work fine for plinker and hunting carry. These are not for cowboy action shooters, for sure but for banging around the woods they work fine and offer good protection to the pistol/revolver. I don't believe there are any one-size-fits-all holsters, but one size may fit several. Don't store guns in leather, the tanning solutions will take the blue off.

For a "fits all" holster, just something to hold your gun while to reload while plinking, I went to the gun shop, into the "Used holster" box, and picked out a cheap leather holster, and sawed off the bottom, leaving only the belt loot and 2" of holster. It seems to work for all my autos, but I wouldn't bet it would work with revolvers.

I don't use it anymore. E-mail me an address and I'll mail it to you.

I contemplated using a leather "construction" pouch, 8" square, but since there was embedded dirt and soldier stuck to the leather, I decided against, not wanting to scratch the guns.

Where I shoot, I can lay a towel on a side tool box on the truck and set my pieces down as I re-load. If I hike and plink, I might wear two or three holsters and a fanny pack for ammo. It helps to take the ammo out of the boxes first. Helps a lot, because the plastic cases and cardboard boxes just get in the way.

And if you are shooting .32 and 380ACP, careful they do not mix. I loaded a 380 round into a 32 mag. It fit, but got jammed in there, until I figured out what the problem was, and mag. disassembly was necessary.

The only type that I know of that will fit most guns are the type with the flap that the entire gun fits into. They aren't real practical except for transport.
I'd get a nylon belt holster for most pleasure uses but stick with leather for CCW use.
