Can't be of much help except to say that mine also is a series 191. I haven't bought a drum because I'm a little concerned about overheating. If you run 30 through it on full auto it gets pretty hot.

    Enjoy.

Cool buy! BetaMag makes a nice 90-rounder if you can afford one (what am I saying?! You just bought a MG!!!), be careful if you disassemble the stock from the receiver; I watched a friend struggle with the little burst ratchet for over an hour before he gave up and now has a (non-) select fire, full-auto!

If you know it all; you must have been listening.<br>WEAR EAR PROTECTION!

Spring, my own Ruger AC-556 was also a series 191 but just like Jeff, I have no idea if all were from the same series. Drums are tough to find and I do not believe that BETA offers a tower for their C-MAG which will adapt it over to your AC-556. The only drums which I can remember which might fit the Mini were the older MGW "Ninety Rounder" clear plastic drums which offset to the left of the rifle-- I think a version was available for the Mini. I have not seen these around much lately, although before the ban they were pretty common at around $50. I had mixed results using these plastic drums in my own M16's and never tried one in my AC-556 sales sample to see if it would work. If I can recall you are sitting on a pile of OEM Ruger hi-caps (envy) so why worry about the drum?

FYI: I had a response on "Another" Forum from a guy that has a "190" series AC, it came with wood handguard and no bayonet lug he said.
cbxjeff, The "Heat" is of concern and an issue to be careful with.
and Mark, the "Drum" idea is-I would have to admit 100% "Cosmetic".
As you and I have visited about, I do have a fairly good supply of NIB 20 and 30 round factory Ruger mags from the late 70's and early 80's that I had put away.
As I was opening a couple of the long/white Ruger boxes to take out a couple of the brand new mags, I almost "Cringed" at the thought of actually "Using" them.
But, why not use new ones that work-instead of paying much more than I have invested; for used or after-market that "May or May Not".
I guess "Rationalizing" is part of the "Hobby"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wisdom comes with age, sometimes age comes alone.

The AC556 is not a recently-introduced model (I think the AC556 was introduced in the 1970s, but would have to go back through my Ruger law enforcement catalogs to find the earliest catalog), so I would assume that the model was available in the earlier series as well.

I agree with Mr. Christian on the drum issue. The MGW drum is the only one of which I am aware for the Ruger Mini-14 family of rifles. (They show up on that big auction site from time to time as a "10-round" magazine, and on GunBroker.) The only Beta towers I have ever seen are for the "elite" brands like Colt, Steyr, SIG, etc..
