TC Barrels: .357 max/.45 LC suggestions
I just purchased a contender and it has a .45LC barrel. I liked it because the .44mag in the contender is pretty stout and was making me flinch the trigger pull. Well I took it out the last weekend for Illinois white tail pistol season and shot a deer at about 35 yards. I was using Remington High Velocity w/ 250gr(?) lead round nose. Knocked it right off its feet, but it was a pretty small deer. I'm not confident on how it would have performed on a BIG deer. Are there any factory loads out there that will offer a little more power. Do any of you guys have an opinion on the .357 max in the contender? Do you have any other suggestions as to caliber? FYI: Illinois state law requires you hunt w/ a caliber of .30 or larger so you .223 guys can discard that perfect solution.
Thankyou in advance,
BEN

I have 14" in 35 Remington that I like. It is hotter than the 357 max. I get about 2000fps with a 200 gr bullet. 0 -
How's the recoil compared to a .44 magnum? Is it in a old model?
Thanks

Have you tried mybe a longer/heavier barrel in 44? The 357max is a good round, but unless you reload it's useless. Also you might want to try some of the 45lc ammo from corbon or buffalo bullets. I hunt in Ohio with a 454 tc, kicks more than the 44. Anything rifle caliber will always kick more. 0
