Yes the gas tube will probably need removed to tighten the barrel nut fully. I would take it to a smith and have them check it out. The gun will likely need to have the headspace checked after the nut is tightened. I wouldn't use it until it is repaired, if you have a case rupture with a .308 the gun might not be the only thing that gets damaged.[B)]

    Why did it come loose?

If it is only 2 years old, dosent Armalite warranty them for life?

Something has happened to this rifle that needs to be looked at by the manufacture.

I would email Armalite about the problem and seek repairs from them.

Im with kingjoey, dont fire it anymore till its fixed.

the barrel nut might not be the problem...i have seen the barrel itself come loose from the barrel extension ..the barrel extension is the part where the locking lugs on the bolt engage...yes ar type barrels are 2 piece...pull the bolt and look inside at the breech while you are twisting the barrel if the breech isnt moving then you better send it back to whomever made it

You can probably send just the upper back to Armalite. That will save you a lot of hassle and if I remember right, they do good with warranty. Call them first and tell them what's going on and they'll probably tell you what to do fromthere.
Fix it before you shoot it!!!!!

Thanks for the help. Local gunsmith tightened the barrel nut and problem solved. Said headspace was not a concern.
