Nothing wrong w/ them ... they're just pretty new.

Good mid-level pistol. buy it, enjoy it!

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

I've got two of them. I wouldn't have two if I didn't like the first one......a lot! They are a very good 1911 with an improved extractor and many of the smaller parts mfg. by Wilson Combat, who, themselves, make a very fine product. Also, S&W makes the frame and slide forgings for Kimber, also recognized as one of the best, so it all comes together as a pretty fine product for S&W. Recommend![:D]

The recall involves the very first ones, and requires replacement of the firing pin safety. I happen to have one of them, have fired it extensively, and have had no trouble; but of course I will get around to sending it in eventually, as who wants a failure when the chips are down. All produced since then do not have the problem, and to assure that they are not among those recalled they come from the factory with an "S" stamped on the bottom of the slide near the safety plunger. My newest specimen is so marked, as are those returned from the recall. Turn around time on the recall is only about a week, I am told, with shipping payed both ways by the factory. The marking is visible with the slide locked back and the pistol turned upside-down, or through the magazine well with the magazine removed. Mine are "spot-on" for accuracy, and the triggers are acceptable "as-is", but it wouldn't take much to make them match grade. I still believe you can't go wrong.

There's the new SIG and Para-Ordinance 1911s which might be worth considering as well. I like the S&W, but I think S&W will greatly surpass it on their next model. At least I hope so.

Had the opportunity to shoot one of these last summer at the S&W Training Academy in Springfield; pretty cool - for $25 you rent any gun they make (except the 500), a box of ammo, eye protection, hearing protection, hat and some targets to try it out on their very nice range. The pistol they gave me was very dirty, they said had 500+ rounds through it since last cleaning. At 25 yards, my best group was a couple of inches - probably due more to my poor marksmanship than the gun. The only flaw that I noticed was that the slide didn't always lock back on an empty magazine, they said due to the lack of cleaning. Of course the bigger flaw was that it was a single stack - I'm a Para fan. Fit, finish and components were very good for the price. If I had room in my safe...
