dsphd,
The Stevens mod.29 is not a slide action. What you have there, although it says Stevens, was probably made by Savage.
According to the "Blue Book":
Model 29 Slide action--.22S,L,LR.22"bbl.,octagon until 1940,
round on post-WWII,open sights,checkered pistol-grip stock on pre-war
plain on late model.Mfg.1929-1967.
Values on post war range from $235(100%) to $65(60%)
Pre-war $295(100%) to $90(60%)
Hope this helps

IT'S WHAT PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THEMSELVES THAT MAKES THEM AFRAID.0 -
Steven's fire Arms company was bought by Savage arm's in the teens. Steven's offered a slide action, pump action, trombone action, 22 that was almost identical to the Savage 29 and 29-a. The only diffence was the Steven's was more economically made. I have Steven's in my collection marked Steven's 75, Steven's 29-A, and Steven's 49. The 49 I believe to be a mistake at the factory, although I have seen one other. Most had a staight grip stock and a short front pump handle. Later models pistol grip and long front handles. Value is a little less that the Savage 29-A.
