No, you apparently had a gorilla tighten it. It should back up like any right hand thread. You might get a large screwdriver across the slot and tap on the screwdriver while keeping tension on it (Righty-tighty, lefty loosey). The nut should come off then after releasing the bolt and slide the action open slightly the barrel should slide right off.

Hello, he doesn't know what you are talking about. I do. You have a Remington 870 with a magazine extention that has a removable nut to join the mag. and mag. extention, correct? If so, you were able to remove the mag. extention but not the nut, correct? If so, try padding a good channel locks around it but be sure to have it loose enought so as not to pinch the nut and really lock it on there. Then turn it loose. Hope this helped.

If "con" is the opposite of "pro," then what is the opposite of progress?

Thanks Michael, I figured that was the problem, but I thought it might be a good idea to ask someone who knew. I'll give it a shot, and thanks again.

Sorry, didn't know you had a mag ext. You might also try a little heat on the nut, i.e. hair dryer, or very carefully a propane torch then as Supreme suggests. Sometimes a little heat is enough to let you get things moving.
