shipping handgun question
Is it lawful for a non-licensed individual (no ffl) to ship a
handgun (personal firearm) to a buyer in another state, provided that
it is shipped to a FFL dealer in that state?
I know that fed ex, usps, and ups have their own polices, but aside from that , what do the feds say...
thanks

Fed wise as long as you have the signed in ink current date ffl in your hand you may ship to thet ffl licenced dealer only at the address on his licence. You can ship it UPS but make sure to charge the buyer at least $40.00 or go to the ups web site and use the ffl dealers zip and figure it overnite supersaver + insurance as that will be the cost of ups overnight shipping to him insured. MAKE sure you claim it as a pistol being sent for repair or customizing as that is the only way ups will let you send the pistol and have the ffl with you. Make sure to claim it as a pistol as if it gets lost and you claim anything else you wont get paid for it.

John W is absolutely correct. The only thing I would like to add is that UPS (& FEDEX) require you to ship from a company counter (not a package store).
And, handguns cannot be mailed (USPS) by nonlicensees.

Yo flfcjf, fedex will except a handjun from a residence (setup) from a non FFL holder-ONLY- with proper notification to the driver and with (only with) a PRE SUPPLIED Billable Stamp provided by the receiving FFL holder. "No ammo" and setup thru fedex pickup site. Of course there is a chance of firearm theft, but it's a jungle out there. JIMBO 0 -

As a nonlicensee, you are not required to have a copy of the dealer's FFL and some dealers will not send one to you. All you need for a CYA are the first 3 and the last 5 numbers of the dealer's FFL. You can then go to the BATF FFL eZCheck web site and verify the license and the dealer's premisis adddress. See the link.
