What is a fair price for a SW model 439 9mm used but in good shape?

  Off the top of my head, I would think $200-250 would be a fair price. Everyone has S&W 9mm's for sale, as most PD's have been dumping them in favor of .40's. You can easily get a hi-cap stainless steel S&W for < $300.
  
  If you would like to see what prices guns actually bring, search for completed auctions on the Gunbroker home page. Look for the prices at which guns actually sold, not what was asked.
