    "Winchester" started using the "G" prefix in 1970, starting with G941901. they continued into 1981 with G1537134. Then USRA, bought "Winchester from the Olin Corp. From that time on, USRA's has done some strange things with serial numbers. When they went back to the original bolt style, they started a new "G" serial number sqence. My guess is your gun was made by USRA. Regards Dave

    I think you were sold a recently made gun. The "classic" part of the title refers to the return of the controlled round feed with a claw extractor like was used on the pre 64 model 70s. I have a recent classic featherweight in 30.06 that I believe I purchased in 1999(new). It had been on the wall at a gun shop for a year or two before I bought it. The serial number on it starts with G3089xx.It also has six numerical digits........... [:(]
