old colt
I have not seen it yet, but a friend of mine has an old Colt SAA that he wants me to look at. According to him, it is a 1st Gen, 1903, 38 WCF, sn#138,xxx, in very good condition. I'm looking in the Blue Book and seeing values in the neighborhood of $10,000. Am I on the right page?

had a friend call today about an old colt sa 45 7-1/2 revolver...his friend was the executor of an estate and wondered how to properly sell this old colt which has a 4 digit serial and i have dated it thru my info to 1876 and military issue... i told them to find the colt guru and have it appraised as this has to be accurately identified as genuine and not a fake or something screwed with...any recommendations as to who or where this would be...we are here in the middle of kansas...it needs to be done right...thanks 0 -
According to the information I have, this gun would have been made in 1905 with that serial number. This serial number and the three patent dates would be found on guns in serial number ranges of 135000 to #357859.
I could tell you more things if I had some pictures to look at. Or, in the alternative, explain completely and fully all markings and where they appear on the gun. Also need the barrel length measured from the front of the cylinder to the muzzle.
Now, because a gun that you are describing here would be extremely rare because of what seems to be in "100% Condition," I would be very hesitant to try to value it BEFORE I was able to "authenticate" it. If I were you, I would contact the Colt Factory Historical Department, pay the fee, and get a "Factory Letter" which would describe your gun as it left the factory. If it is indeed in 100% condition and is as it left the factory in 1905, you could be looking at a value in excess of $12,000.00!
If you describe it more fully, I will attempt to compare it to what it is supposed to be, but my "Opinion" which I am expressing here is in no way to be construed as to be an "appraisal" or amounting to anything except one man's opinion. I cannot be held to what I can't see........Hope this helps!

It's a first generation 1905 gun and if it's as described the value is very high.
If you are planning to sell it, you might do best through one of the big auction houses.0 -
CAN YOU POST A PIC. A COLT 99 YEARS OLD AND IN 100% CONDITION WOULD BE OF GREAT VALUE.
I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.0 -
