Honestly, I would not trade in both my 3006 and 300 win mag's for
a 300 wsm, But i would Buy one just because of its "cool" factor[:D]

The 270 and 300 WSM will be with us for a long time to come. The 300 RSAUM will wither on the vine. The 300 RUM is an excellent cartridge and will surpass the 300 Win. Mag by several hundred FPS with every bullet weight.

the WSM's have made a showing on the benchrest circuit as well,...they will be around for awhile. Ditto Aglore's response on the 300RUM as well. I wouldn't trade mine for a pair of 300win mags.

why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

I can't believe the guys I know with a dozen 0-6's, 270's, & 308's, that feel they have to go out and buy a short or ultra mag for their next big game hunt. But thats why they were developed.MARKETING! What better way to get the average guy who has a half dozen rifles, to feel he has to buy a couple more. Their is no game that you can hunt with any of the calibers you list, that you cannot hunt with a 30-06. I'll go to my grave with my pre-64 model 70's. If you are splittin hairs on the benchrest, it might be worth the research. Then again, there's no such thing as too many guns. If it intrigues me, I'll experiment with it for the hobby of it.

If I were buying new, I might go that way, but I certainly would not trade in my -06 (If I had one[:I]) to get in to a short action mag. The -06 will also be around another century.

I have a Ruger #1 in .300 winmag for years now and would not consider starting over with the RUM. It would, though, have been my choice; had it been around. There is something about having the big boy on the block for a certain cal. range. Who wants a .380 when they can have a .357?[8D]

I dont think I would take him from a .243 to one of the short magnums. Step him up to a .270 Winchester.
