I like Guns & Ammo. I read the back page first. Jeff Cooper.

Gun List has a listing of shows.

Guns and Ammo is OK and so is Guns, and American Handgunner, etc., etc.

Before you subscribe buy an issue or two ... see how you like 'em, then sign up.

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

I prefer Rifle and Handloader magazines.

G&A is one of my monthly staples - I also read Cooper's Corner first. Also look through American Handgunner. I also like a mag called "Gun Tests", its a no-nonsense, consumer reports type magazine that evaluates different firearms and accessories. If I had to pick only one, it would be Gun Tests. It's all in what you want. Best advice is to buy a couple of copies or look at their websites to pick the format and content that you want.

Try Shooting Times. They have a good mix of new product reviews, handloading articles, gun tests and many other topics.

I subscribe to both G&A and Shooting Times. Both have their good points but I prefer Shooting Times coverage on issues better.

i'm with Iroquois Scout on this one; if you're a handloader, you need to get Handloader; for a general interest gun magazine Rifle is the best. These Wolfe Publishing magazines are much more technical and much less fad-driven and "commercial" than most of the others. Of the "others," I prefer Shooting Times. (Actually, I read most of the gun magazines; by subscription, by purchase of issues that have special interest, by browzing at the big chain bookstores....).

I also like Rifle. Most of the others are fad driven, and rehash annually set articles like "Our Experts Choose, 5 Top Self Defense Handguns" ad nauseum. They are also basically advertising for manufacturers. Gun Tests is another interesting mag that accepts no advertising and does nothing but gun tests. In the year I tried it though they tested not a single gun that interested me.

I think the suggestion to try a couple of issues off the newstand to see how you like them is a good one.

I like GUN TESTS and did find some guns that interested me. I also find myself looking into past issues for info on pieces I'm considering or have already bought. About the two hand gun magazines, yes, they are sales-driven, with reviews largely taking the track of info-mercials at times. But I still like them, also enjoying their techniques and tactics articles. They have some beautiful portraits of the products.

I would suggest Shotgun News. I find the articles to be intersting, it lists a lot of shows, and it comes 3 times a month. I do subscribed to Guns and Ammo as well.
