1911 style 45 acp
I am looking for a decent 1911 for plinking and general carry in the woods. I don't need a custom job or even a top of the line model. Is the Charles Daley worth $350 or so or is it junk? Any other suggestions in the $350 - $450 range. As always thanks for your replies.

For that price range I would look at the springfield Milspec. They seem a lot tighter than the daly and I am not so suspect of the metalurgy. A lifetime warranty doesn't hurt either. $375 in my local shops. You should also be able to find a decent used Colt 1991 for $400 or so, which will hold its resale much better.

Used Colt, try to get stainless. For $620, a new Colt 01091 Stainless 5" barrel.
With NEW, you get a lifetime warranty. http://www.colt.com/CMCI/1991.asp

Good luck with your decision! The SA Mil-Spec is my second choice, and can be had for $440 + fees. It ALSO has a lifetime warranty.0 -
I have only "gotten rid of" two guns that I purchased and the Charles Daly 45 was one of them. 0 -
i have a daly and really it is a better shooting .45 than the series 70 i once had. it has all the features and it does shoot very well. go for it 0 -
Now, I don't claim to be an expert on Charles Daly 1911's but I have built about a hundred 1911's over the last few years and am always looking for parts. I was told that the Daly 1911's are made in the Phillipines and are of such dubious quality that even the Phillipinos won't buy them. I've found what is claimed to be the manufacturer of the parts for Daly 1911's and they sell slides for 40-60 bucks. Doesn't sound like quality to me. I won't buy CD 1911 parts at all.

Whats next? A ban on automatic transmissions?0 -
I own brand name autos and I own a Charles Daley. I have only shot it about 300 times and so far it shoots great. I did buy Chip McCormack mags for it. I bought this gun to toss around on my atv and in my truck.
BTW--You will find that some people hate the CD and others like it. I was lucky and believe I got a good one,my opinion.

Some don't like them, but an Auto Ordinance should be in the $250 to 300 range. Mine shoots very well. They have been bought out by Kahr Arms who is a quality manufacturer and the latest will probably be better guns. I never had probalems with mine. For $100 or so more , a ParaOrdinance would also be an excellent choice. Very good customer service and just a high quality weapon. 0 -
Hello, Rock Island Armory. I have not heard a bad word about them and very easy on the wallet.
