The Jennings 9mm nightmare. Is it that bad?
I was casualy surfing the auctions and came accross the Jennings 9mm., Not familiar with the brand, I did an extensive search of this forum and past threads and here is what I found in response to inquiries about the Jennings 9mm.
1. " In fell apart on the first shot"
2. " The ammo is worth more than the gun"
3. " Yeah, its $139/gun, but I wouldn't pay that for the whole case"
4. "garbage"
5. " My nephews cap gun is a better investment"
6. "crap"
7. " it evaporated at the range on the third try"
8. "try cleaning it and you'll know the meaning of pain"
My question is this. Is Jennings still in business?
I am curious. I have near read such a negative review of any firearm.
Feedback is appreciated

I don't know whether Jennings is still in business.
I have shot a Jennings 9mm and will not again. It is VERY punishing to the web of the hand.
When I went to the CHL instructor class at Texas DPS HQ in Austin, the troopers instructing the class asked if anyone had brought a Jennings 9mm to shoot.
No one had, fortunately.
The trooper went on to say that two of these guns showed up in one of the early classes and they blew apart on the range.
The Jennings 9mm was the ONLY pistol that the DPS troopers said WOULD NOT BE FIRED ON THEIR RANGE, EVER. Their range, their rules.
That ought to tell you something.

I had a Jennings 380, not the 9mm, and have nothing good to say about the pistol. It did not fall apart, but was not dependable to fire, was not consistent in shot placement, and was not a good weapon in any fashion..... 0 -
My first guess would be that you didn't find any GOOD commendts bout Jennings, right? That shold tell ya something.:)
We all like to find things that are good and cheap, but how often do they go hand in hand??

It isn't worth the price and I sure wouldn't trust my life with it, but if you don't mind the jamming ya might like it. Personally, I'd take a used revolver over them in a heart beat (and I'm a die-hard auto guy). 0 -
I will admit to having a Jennings 9mm in my gun safe. I purchased it from the widow of a deceased friend. (She needed the money) I only shot it one time which was a waste of ammo and time. Jam-a-matic and about as accurate as a rubber ban gun....
By the way you forgot to mention that five of them in a bucket of cement with a rope tied to it make a decent anchor.
Guns only have two enemies: Rust and Liberals....0 -
In handguns, as in most everything else, you get what you pay for. Jennings, et al, is a company that indirectly lends fuel to the anti-gunners, producing a cheap, unreliable weapon that can lead to lawsuits and further restrictions on handgun ownership. It is hard to believe that anyone would take them seriously. 0 -
Jennings (which was the last name of the founder/owner) closed up shop several years ago when faced with a number of unpleasent court cases and financial problems. This company later became Bryco with the Jennings company remaining as a sort of parent firm which has nothing to do with producing the guns themselves (there by staying clear of liability), but acts as a distributor for Bryco, Sundance, and a few other low cost pistol lines. I see no point in going on about the problems with these pistols because you say you've already researched them here on Gun Broker. The 8 examples you listed are rather tame because most folks who owned these pistols have even WORSE things to say about them!

To answer your subject line question in a word ... yes. I had a friend of 10 years call from CO last year. She told me she felt she needed a pistol in the house an had bought one. She didn't know what kind so checked the box and it was a Jennings 9. I felt so strongly about this junk that I made her a deal. She took the Jennings to the local police, told them she no longer wanted it, and please dispose of it. I sent (or really asked my local dealer) her (really a local dealer but not the money hungry one that sold her the Jennings) a Ruger P89 that I bought a couple of years ago. She is too good a friend to have her possibly defend her 2 little ones as well as herself with that Jennings.
I wouldn't give my mother-in-law a jennings!
