1889 bodeo revolver
I like to own, shoot, and carry old revolvers around my farm and I am especial interested in old european weapons. Currently my arsenal cosists of a a 45acp webley Mk6 and a 44-40 belgian top-break (which I am in the process of restoring). Recently I came across a italian Bodeo revolver with a folding trigger guard in the original caliber for $75.00. The gun needs some work and I was wondering if before I buy it if it could be converted to 44 russian as the ammo is an easier find. Is this possible? If not can ammo still be had?

The problem your going to run into is that the 10.4mm Italian Military Revolver Cartridge is smaller in all dimensions compared to the .44 Russian. Even IF you were successful in sleeveing the cylinder, the diameter of the bullet is .007 smaller.
Fiocchi, catalogs the 10.4mm cartridge on their Web-Site.
It would be more feasible for you to use the correct ammo.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
just this week, on wednesday, i handled, dissasembled, and generaly fondled a GLISENTI (of BRESCIA) 10.4MM ITALIAN ORDNANCE REVOLVER. the customer is having it restored (re-blued, grips refinished, action tuned, etc...) and he wondered out loud were was he going to find ammo??? the answer was simple. we have the dies on order, and they will soon arrive hear at the shop. we also ordered a few hundred brand new virgin cases. we will be offering a box of 50 loaded rounds, designed to duplicate original military specs minus 5%-10% for saftey for $58.99. we will reload your empties for $19.99 per box.
if you cannot locate this elsewere, please feel free to contact me at waltsgun@aol.com for details. this is an interesting cartridge, and i always love to add a new old, obsolete, and oddball die-set to our collection. i have been offered a chance to fire the customers gun, and cannot wait. i will be able to make a new "I FIRED ONE" notation to my CARTRIDGES OF THE WORLD. best regards, mike.

Dont shoot the Belgian 44-40. I shot a mint top break S&W copy loose
with about 4-5, 40gr black powder loads. These cheapos are shown in reprints of the 1909 Sears catalog for a third the price of the Smiths.0
