best 1911 finish for carry
I recently moved to MI, a shall issue state. I am carrying a 45 in 1911 style. I live near Lake MI. Hot and humid summers. Cold and wet winters. I want a rust resistant and abrasion resistant finish. In your experience, what would work best for me?

In my opinion a Stainless finish would hold up against the elements better. Also a weekly rub down with a Birchwood Casey silicone patch should keep your finish looking new for yrs.
Best!!

Glock 30 is a .45 caliber compact that is polymer and hard finished slide. I carry mine in Texas in the small of my back. Never an issue with rust or pitting. My Colt 1911 is easily affected by my sweat, and I haven't tried my HK yet.

You could hard chrome or bear coat finish a blued gun if that's what you are currently using.

Had some nickel Colts, and over time the finish wears thru.
Have a Hard Chrome on Race gun, and over time it wears.
Had some european weapons, and they rusted while I looked at them.
The Glocks have never shown the first sign of wear or blemish. Inside or out!
Have some weapons in stainless and do like it. Everyone on the post is talking about the exterior of the weapon...a blued, nickel, hard chromed, teflon, etc is usually on the exterior ONLY... stainless goes all the way thru. It to me is the best protection because the inside is protected also. (I just don't like a shiny gun!)
A product called Semichrome polish will buff a stainless to a mirrored or nickel like finish. Usually get it at the motorcycle shops.

You may want to consider that if you are carrying concealed that a light gun will be more visible if your jacket, vest, etc should blow open. 0
