    Two problems I see here...

    1. Short barrel? Shortest tube was 30".

    2. Chrome? No such animal.

That would lead me to believe you have a heavily modified gun. The value will be considerably reduced from what otherwise would be a fairly valuable piece. Perhaps a third of what a nice gun might bring (somewhere in the $900.00 area).

.... $900.00 for an original gun in used, but nice shape.

    Hello Mako...

Are you sure it is chrome[?] might it be nickel plated instead[?] or maybe just bare steel (devoid of all the original factory finish)[?]

Factory original Model 1887 lever action shotguns were all made with case color hardened frames and levers, and the barrels were blued (except for the ultra rare special order damascus barrels, which were usually browned). Normal barrel length was 30" or 32" (depending upon the gauge).

If your 1887 has truly been chrome plated, it is worth very little, as these are blackpowder only shotguns, and are considered to be collectors items only. Nord was possibly being a bit too generous in his valuation estimate of a butchered non-factory original Model 1887.

What is the barrel length[?] There were a scant few special order Model 1887s made in a "Riot Gun" configuration, and that fact can be verified through the Cody Firearms Museum.

To Nord... I always new you had a soft spot in your heart for Winchester made shotguns[:D]

If your shotgun has been nickel plated by some previous owner, removing the nickel could improve the value a lot. Fairly easy to do.
