Nearly anything sold by Sears was mass produced. "J.C. Higgins" was just a brand name Sears used on the firearms they sold through their catalog.
Someone else here might be able to give you some of the names of the manufacturers who made firearms for Sears. If your 22 doesn't have a serial number (much of what Sears sold prior to 1968 didn't have serial numbers), it may be difficult to determine the year it was manufactured.
The value might depend on who the actual manufacture was, but in all probablity it's worth under $100 depending upon the condition.0 -
Go to the top of the page, find Search and type in J C Higgins. You'll find at least a page of information. I have a Model 31 semi-auto 22 made by High Standard in the 50's and it's stock, fit, finish and operation is excellent. 0 -
The 583.7 was made by High Standard, and is an economy version of the HS model 10. Depending upon condition it would sell for about $75-$150. Not that they were not decent rifles, but there is no collector intrest in these, and the model with manufacturers name always bring more than a department store model in equal condition. My 31 is a great rifle 50 years later and still shoots better than I do. It is a treasure, regardless of how little money it will bring.
