New Mod. #3 S&W
I'm new to the Forum, but I'm sure I've dealt with most of you as I've used GB to the tune of many $$$.
I have an S&W New Model#3 Target in .38/44 S&W gallery. I have heard a rumor that the .38 S&W cartridge can be fired in this gun safely.
Does anyone know if this is true? While I would'nt want to fire it a lot, I do get a kick out of shooting the old guns if they are safe.
The .38/44 cartridge is hard to find and very expensive.

Curtis Steinhauer's, Excellent site shows the dimensions of the Smith & Wesson 38-44 Target Cartridge ( 1886 ), to be virtually identicle to the 38 S & W, EXCEPT in case length. The case length of the 38-44 is given as 1.468".
