    Hello.
I have been holding on to my
brothers A5 sweet 16 and now
    he wants to sell it.
    DOM is 1960.
Cosmetically it is in good condition,
Except for the fact he had a smithy
drill and tap the receiver for
    a scope (side mount).
So question is : If we consider this
    shotgun in good condition how
much money has he lost from the alterations?
    Thanks-Ron

As far as I know there's not much beyond a cracked forestock that goes wrong with these guns. Two problems come to mind though, but neither are common.

My first concern is to whether your bolt is fully forward and in battery when you try to fire. I have a feeling that this is where you'll find the problem. Recheck the bushings and make sure everything is clean. The barrel and bolt have to be in full battery for the gun to fire.

If that checks out, then there's the firing pin and spring. I'd probably place a primered empty in the chamber and fire the gun. No dimple on the primer (or a weak dimple) would lead me to the pin or spring. A full dimple would lead me back to what I first assumed.

I'll go out on a limb here and wager that you'll find oxidized grease somewhere either in the recoil mechanism or in the bolt assembly. A good cleaning and relube will get things right in short order. In the unlikely situation where you need a part, they're readily available.
