1894 Special order rifle
I have asked several questions about this gun and have received some excellent advice. Right now am waiting on delivery for a Lever Action book by Pirkle.
In the mean time, Im wondering if someone can give me a ball park price; 1894 38;55 with standard 26 inch barrel. 1/2 oct and 1/2 round. 1/2 magazine, marbles front sight, modified buckhorn rear. Forearm cap is nickel in about 60 % condition. Deluxe wood, am guessing at least 2X, Bore is mirror, exterior , including blue is between 95 and 98n percent. A truly beautiful Winchester. I dont think it will letter because of its age 1907. But what do I know.
Any educated guesses will sure be appreciated.
Patience is a virtue and eagerness isnt ????????

Hello WildBill,
If you think that the rifle is deluxe wood, there will normally be an assembly number stamped in the stock, under the butt plate and a matching number stamped in the lower tang. If you indeed have an original with 2X wood a factory letter will possibly confirm it. As a rule, special order guns got special wood. You can contact Waddy at the Cody Firearms Museum and they will research the records and send you a letter with information as to the exact condition of the rifle, (barrel length, sights, any special finish, etc.), when it left the factory. The cost is $55.00 if you are not a member. If you think it is really something special, it is well worth the price. The Cody Firearms museum address is:
Buffalo Bill Historical Center
P.O. Box 1000
Cody, Wyoming 82414
Phone: 307-587-4771
Hope this helps,

I recently purchased a very similar gun for $1100. However, I saw one 5 years ago in a shop that was not as good as mine and the price was $1250 at that time. 0
