Im sorry I mean to say the Beretta comes with a rail for the scope and the ruger doesn't so that ads some $ to the ruger's price!! 0 -
If you want plinking go with the Ruger. If you want target look at the Beretta. There are many other very fine plinking and target .22 on the market. My 2 cents [8D]

Ruger, Mk II with a 5 1/2 inch bull barrel. I have one and it is a heck of a shooter. I have a B-Square mount that slips onto the upper and it very solid. I use a cheap red dot scope, and I also have a 2 power scope that makes it even better for more accurate long range shooting. As you say in your post, even with a scope 50 yards is realistically as far as you can go. I think the Ruger also has more aftermarket options for the gun. I have taken many squirrels with my set up, it works good.

I have a Neos and it is a fine pistol, but be prepared for the fact that it hefts and handles like a centerfire, not the typical .22. If you are target shooting it is a good choice. For a bang around plinker, go with the Ruger, or my preference the Browning Buckmark.

I have both. The Ruger 22/45 has a 5.5" bull. Both tested with std vel. CCI at 25 yds from bag rest. 3--5 round tests. On the Ruger all bullet holes touched (can't remember the B/C #). The Beretta was good, but had many that didn't touch. Would be a good test at 50 yds because that really shows the difference. At 50 ft. I couldn't tell the difference, but that was offhand by me (a not to good of shot). I like the Beretta better to shoot, but the Ruger is more accurate out of the box.
Can't go wrong with either, and there is the point about the rail (Ruger will cost about $60 for the rail). On the other hand, there's all types of aftermarket goodies for the Ruger and none for the beretta.
So how's that to further confuse the choice?
Good luck, I'm sure you'll do fine with either one (of course, then you'll want the other one also)0
