'03 Springfield bayonet

The originals, esp. in good shape, are worth so much as many, if not most were modified during WW2 by cutting and putting on new grips. so unmodified examples command a premium. However, a garand bayonet will fit the rifle and is correct to it as well, as they were issued with them in WW2 as such; a nice garand bayonet can be had for about $50 if you aren't picky on manufacturer or date.

Agree with the above, and would add that as the '03 Springfield rifle served all the way through W.W.II the 10 inch blade bayonet can be considered just as authentic as the original W.W.I longer version. If you study the photos of W.W.II G.I.s carrying Springfields you will find that many, if not most, are carrying the 10 inch version. The last pair I acquired cost $69.95 ea., which is a lot better than that $225. The $225 is about what the original version is going for, and I saw a 1942 long blade version in a U.S. Navy scabbard recently for a bit over $300. As for what could turn up from overseas, anything could happen. The two 10 inchers I bought were returns from Denmark. I find it unlikely that any foreign countries received the long blade model as aid, but anything is possible. Problem is, should such a cache be located and returned to the U.S. surplus market, you can bet that the importer will be asking top dollar for whatever their condition may be.
