I will first say on a note away from your topic that if its to go in her purse you cannot beat a Smith & Wesson Airweight .38 with the concealed hammer so she can fire it from her purse if need be without the hammer snagging or the gun jamming up because the slide cant function properly, that shot going off from her purse could give her the edge she needs ti get out unscathed as opposed to pulling her gun on someone who might already have theirs out,it could give her enough time to pull hers in that situation without being shot herself..With that being said go with the HK Compact USP I have handled both and I personally feel that the USP is more user friendly. The cocker on the P7 is strange and takes some getting used to.I would say go for a 9mm for her as it seems to be the lightest of what you have listed.

Look at the Kahr P9 or P40. My 2 cents [8D]

TRUSTA you are psychic! I considered hammerless SW for the very reasons you state...but, because my wife has shot my fullsized USP's, she is already comfartable with the layout and functions...so am I...I am trying to keep a consistancy between our carry pistols...

The P7 is an interesting firearm but I would suggest one more conventional .I could care less if my EX was protected, but I'm teaching my 17 yr old Daughter to shoot a P.239 Sig. in 9mm.

    Anyone have any recommendations?

She has and shoots the Glock 30 "OK", but I think it is both too heavy for her purse and too much kick for her to quickly reaquire her target. So, I am looking to get her something more mission specific.

I own a G30 and do think it would be heavy for a lady's purse, but if she shoots it ok and likes the gun, then probaby a Glock 36 would be a lot better choice. There would be little to learn other than managing the recoil. Unfortunately all small guns are somewhat like riding a bull shooting wise. They aren't unmanageable with practice.

There's really nothing particularly advantageous about HKs over a Glock and going down caliber isn't really wise unless she's clinically precise in her shooting under stress. Most people have enough problems to cope with in a gunfight.

We have already had a small talk about wives and HK's. LOL

While my wife really likes to shoot my 226, she does not care for the 220. The grip does not feel right to her on the 220, and hurts her palm when shoot it. Then she shoots my full size HK (in 45) and likes it a lot. She can hit what she aims at too. But it all boils down to what feels comfortable in her hand. The HK is too big for her, even though she can shoot it well at the range.

After trying just about everything out there, she found that the Walther P-99 with the interchangeable hand grip parts, does feel right to her. Now we have to call the range that rents pistols, and see if they have any of these for rent. She can shoot all calibers, but the same basic grips can effect the hand differently when shooting different calibers. (226 vs. 220) I am thinking a 40 would suit her well. But I want her to actually shoot it to be sure. I know what you mean about adding another caliber to the stable, the 40 would be an addition.

Basically what I am saying is, get something that SHE feels comfortable with. Even if it does not match what you carry.

I carry a H&K USP compact in .40 cal as an off duty gun. I carry this alot and would recommend that your wife carry something she is comfortable with. I have been a Police firearms instructor for years and find that the folks who carry something because someone else does, is doing themselves a real diservice. Remember, you carry that gun for protection, if it gets to heavy and you do not carry it, what good is it? Look into the new S&W Scandium framed revolvers, they are light and she will have it with her more likely than not

The P7-M8 may be a bit unconventional and pricey but I think it would be about perfect for her to carry. It is relatively small, light and very slim with superb accuracy and reliability. The unique squeeze-cock action is one that she should be able to adapt to very easily but it is very safe for carry also the bore axis sits very low in the hand making it a very natural pointer.

P7 M8 is WITHOUT a DOUBT my recommendation. My fiance has one that I had given her and it is 1) safe, 2) easy to carry, 3) light, 4) reliable, 5) user friendly and 6) will hold its value.

    Just my opinion....[:)]
