Ruger MK II model 678

My 12 year old son reveived a ruger mk 11 model 678 for christmas and he would like me to mount a scope on it for him. Could you tell me if I remove the rear site do they make a mount to match up to the the same holes? Thank You!!

    B-Square has a few types of scope mounts (Google search should find their site). Seem to recall that one type actually fits over receiver without having to remove the rear sight as well as remove-the-sight kind.

    You will not need to remove the rear sight. I have one on a Mk II, its made by B-Square and just slips onto the upper and has screws locking in to the side of the upper. This allows you to even still use the front and rear sights. No screws go into the gun itself, the screws locking it down only "clamp" it to the side. It works great, I have one of the cheap BSA red dot scopes on it and it works wonderful.

    B-Square and Aim Point, both are carried by Midway and you have choices of leaving rear sight in place or removing and bolting rail in place.

    If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

    The 678 is the slab side model and simply requires the right rings for mounting a scope. There is no need to remove any thing or drill/tap to do so. Any gun decent gunshop should be able to help you mount the scope of your choice while you wait if they aren't busy and have the scope and rings on hand.

    Crosshair, The are a couple of different mounts available for the Rugers. You say it's a T678 (which does NOT make it a 'slabside') the 'slabside' is the Competition model that comes with the receiver drilled for it's own mount(3 holes will be in the top ) The regular Target 678 needs a mount that can either 'clamp' on,such as a "Monomount" or the B-Square, uses the rear sight body and clamps up front or the "Millett" that replaces the rear sight completely and has a dovetail spacer to screw into. Use any of the mounts you do NOT have to drill and tap your gun and possibly 'ruin' any re-sale value![;)]

    weaver makes one that is much better than b-square in my opinion. i can send you one at 10% over dealer cost. same for a scope
