Before you start getting too excited you need to be aware that there is no possible way to import that machinegun into the United States for other than a few highly restricted purposes. Exactly what are your plans for this Machinegun? Asssuming you are a licensed Class 1 importer you may bring this gun in for study or other scientific purposes (with rock solid documentation to back all this up) in which case you'll be granted a conditional import permit allowing the gun in the country for a maximum of 12 months. The Hotchkiss is a Curio and Relic and these C&R machineguns can no longer be imported as restricted dealers sales samples with police letters since future supplies of these guns would be doubtful if a PD chose to make the purchase. There is no possible way that this MG can be sold to or retained by an individual in this country.

Sorry to have Mark burst your bubble, but the law is the law. Whether it "works" or not is immaterial if the firearm in question hasn't been certified a "non-gun" by BATFE. Hanging on to an illegal machinegun is a bad idea, and will probably bring a Karmic wake up call from the goon squads.

If you know it all; you must have been listening.<br>WEAR EAR PROTECTION!

Steve, unless the receiver is totally demilled by torch cutting into three pieces it is considered a machinegun no matter what its condition or ability to fire is. There is simply no way that your Hotchkiss can be inported at this point in time. A live registered Model 1914 brings around $6000 to $8,000 in todays MG market but all of those guns were imported prior to the 1968 cut off and there can never be any more imported for transfer to individuals.
