Did Target used to sell rifles & ammo and stop?
I was just curious. A friend of mine told me that they used to sell it and then caved into to pressure from soccer moms and related anti gun nuts. If so, I would like to stop shopping there for good and give all my business to Walmart. I have both a Target and a Walmart in my town. I also thought it was ironic considering Target's name and logo.[:D]

The Target by my house here never has sold firearms. 0 -
If you are thinking about starting a boycott today you are lagging at least ten years behind! None of the Target stores in my area, in fact in the entire state, ever sold firearms- even when they were known as FedMart 20+ years ago. They did sell ammunition. Why they stopped I have no idea, but I still have over 100 boxes of Winchester Super-X 12 gauage shells (in all sorts of loadings) which I purchased on clearance for $.34 (thats thirty-four cents!) per box! I purchased a total of 470 boxes from about 15 different stores. Plenty of other types of rifle and shotgun ammunition also went home with me at about 10% of my dealer cost.

I've never ran across a Target that sold guns, and in recent years none that sold ammo. Several companies caved in to pressure to be more politically correct ... Sears, Wards, Western Auto ... etc.
Me, I've never cared much for Target, always struck me as trying to be an upmarket K Mart with about the same quality merchandise. At least the Wal-Marts I have shopped at don't pretend to be anything more than what they started out as ... discount stores! I prefer their no BS approach.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
The Target down the road from me used to sell firearms and ammo. Had a fair quantity of accessories, also. The Anti's did a good job of convincing them to discontinue the practice - maybe their insurance carrier had some input, also. I can still remember the day of the announcement to discontinue and my personal decision to shop elsewhere for my discount store needs.

Too bad when someone caves in to the anti's and the insurance people. Owner of our company got told by the insurance company to let one of our people go, too many speeding tickets. Boss told the insurance people to kiss his butt, if they didn't like it, he'd go somewhere else for insurance, they weren't going to tell him how to run his company. The man with the tickets still has a job and the insurance company tucked in their tails.0 -
How about Abercrombie and Fitch? I used to buy all my fishing and hunting stuff from them and now all they have are clothes. I still have boxes of 410 AA shells with the A&F price stickers. 0 -
Target no longer sells handgun ammunition at any of its stores. In the documentry Bowling for Columbine" 2 students who were shot with ammo purchased from target went to the headQuarters of target and requested that they stop selling ammunition. Target folded under the media pressure.

Thanks for the valuable info guys. I am hereby boycotting Target for all my purchases. Walmart is getting my business for everything, including ammo. (Hopefully they will never cave in to the anti gun nuts and related vermin traitors to the Constitution).

I was surprised at Kdub's post. I have been shopping at Target for at least 30 years, and have never seen one that sold arms or ammo. Must be a regional thing. I boycot Walmart and Kmart.
