No jacketed ammo at range - what then?
The gun club decided to outlaw jacketed ammo at the indoor range, claiming it was damaging the backstop. For most trips, this is OK - I shoot .22 match ammo or .45ACP reloaded with lead. Occasionally, I'd like to shoot my 9mm. Having trouble locating 9mm ammo that is not jacketed - Cheaper than Dirt didn't list any. Would other types be OK (like MC) or does it have to be lead?
Any other sources out there for ammo that would work?

Full Metal Jacket ammo only or any jacket at all? IE: Jacketed Soft Point or Jacketed Hollow Point.
Other than a few low velocity revolver rounds, most factory ammo is jacketed in some fashion.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
One range I shoot at does not allow FMJ on the rifle line, but HP, SP etc are OK. They say it is a safety issue, as they are near Oakland Airport.

sounds like some reloading is in order. There are some factory reloads with lead bullets, And plated bullets are easy on the backstops. Odds are if the problem has just cropped up recently, someone is shooting a 17HMR inside. Happened at the range I shoot at. I hope you have a good ventilation system, Lead inside is terrible IMHO.

That sounds like a real pain. I would suggest using the copperized bullets from National Bullet Company to minimize your lead exposure.

Pretty broad statement. Get your club to define what is acceptable and what isn't, in fact they should publish a list so every member has a ready reference.
If the club can't do that, then you may want to think about making some changes ... lead rounds indoors ... not a good thing, not good at all, cuz if the backstop is of a quality that jacketed ammo is damaging it, I suspect somebody may have went for "cheap" on the ventlation system.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
I will never enter an indoor range unless it is certification-related.
However, the local indoor range only allows you to shoot their ammo. (Merced)0 -
What's next? You may only shoot OUR guns?! Here's your pellet gun sir, and $3 change from your twenty, would you like fries with that?
If you know it all; you must have been listening.<br>WEAR EAR PROTECTION!0 -
The range I used to go to won't allow lead rounds because of the air standards. 0 -
I've been shooting some of these products and find them to be a viable substitute for lead or jacketed bullets.

is that a private gun club or public sounds like a new back-stop is in order anyway an the owner is to cheap to replace it.. but i bet hes mak'n good money ... just the same "FMJ" should not be used indoors eighter....just my humble opinion
