Savage 340 questions scope base, barrel shank?

I am contemplating picking up one of these to play with. Are there any decent scope bases that get the scope over the bore? Is the barrel shank the same dia and thread pitch as other Savages IE 110... I just like detachable mags, and the split bridge has a neat look to it. Thanks for any help,

  I have a Stevens 325 and a Savage 340 both in 30-30. ( They are very similar.) There is a scope mount made for these rifles but it mounts to the side of the receiver, which means that some of the stock has to be cut back to do it. After some thinking I decided not to do it; I'll use the iron sights. I have to agree with you that they are really neat guns. I don't plan on shooting anything with it beyond 200 yards.

  Easily done.
  Base needed is a #2 Weaver side mount.
  Use Weaver Pistol Mount will fasten to the side mount.

  I have four of these guns with the side mount scopes, and none of my stocks are cut.
