Cheap .410 3" ?
Is there a source for cheap .410 3" shells? 12s and 20s everywhere for $3 a box but .410s are $7+. My .410 Saiga auto with 8 shot mag eats ammo up in a hurry. Any help appreciated.

I haven't found it, but I think it'll always be the 12's and 20's a lot cheaper than the small-bore shotshells... 0 -
The 12 and 20's you see for $3.00 a box are not 3" shells they are 2 3/4 low brass. If you want 3" you have to go to high brass ammo and they are much more expensive. 0 -
One other idea, doesn't the Saiga have a magazine that will allow your gun to shoot the 2 1/2" shells? I realize the cost isn't much difference, but a little bit.
Even the 2.5" shells are still about twice what the 12 gauge shells sell for. [:(!]0 -
I have a 410 I was going to let my grandson shoot this year went to walmart shells was 9.67 per box he just inherited a 20 ga, 0 -
I would suggest you get into reloading. A mec press will run a little over $100. I can load 2 1/2" for about $2.50 a box (figuring 5 loads per hull). Given the gun you are shooting it would pay for itself pretty fast. If you are near a skeet club check and see if you can buy them any cheaper there or maybe get someone to load some for you at a price more reasonable. 12s and 20s are cheaper just due to volume produced. 0 -
20 or 12 ga 3" was not a factor in my question. Thanks for all the suggestions. The best solution may be to buy a Saiga 20 ga auto. Saving on 100 boxes of 20ga vs .410s would pay for it. 0 -
I know its tough to believe, but a few of us calculated it out and it still is almost as cheap to reload 12 gauge as it is .410. Still reloading is the way to go. It should come out around $2.60 or so a box. As dakotashooter said, a MEC 600 jr will load a lot of .410's for not a lot of effort and it's fairly fast, once you get the rhythm.
You'll want to go to Winchester AA or Rem Premier hulls as the others don't last very many if any reloadings.0 -
I know a lot of people are into reloading - and more power to them. I have other things to do and would rather spend time on something else and just buy ammo. Thanks again for all your good thoughts and suggestions. 0 -
I've have done a lot of searching and the best price I've found so far is from Gamaliel (gamaliel.com). I just purchased some .410 2.5 inch target loads (Estate)which came to under $6 a box AFTER shipping. Still not as cheap as reloading my own, but I don't have to put out the bucks for the reloading gear and components. 0 -
