Believe longguns can be bought in a contiguous state.
Handguns would have to be sent to a dealer in your state of residence, for transfer to you.

Rufe is correct about handguns. Longguns may now be bought in any state so long as your home state has no local laws prohibiting it. From Alabama, I can sell longguns to a visiting resident of NY state without prohibition. If he is from NY City, I cannot without permission from his CLEO.

I sell guns in Nebraska, and sell long guns to anyone in a state that touches our state. 0 -
CLEO = Chief Law Enforcement Officer; i.e., sheriff, chief of police, etc.
Elkmaniac, Skyking is correct; you can find the current regulations in Federal Firearms Regulations Reference Guide, ATF P5300.4.0 -
I live in South Dakota and have purchased long guns in Nebraska. I have not had any problems. Don't plan on buying a pistol here, you will have to buy that in Nebraska. FFL dealers in South Dakota can sell long guns to residents of other states. 0 -
why is it that the gun stores in Lacrosse WI which is just on the east side of the Mississippi can sell handguns to residents of MN which is just across the river ? I know for a fact that they do , is it something to do with being so close to the the state lines? 0 -
My interpretation and my compliance agents interpretation of the federal regs say you cannot do that. Perhaps some local exception is made, but I cannot fathom how.

Again, Skyking is correct.
There are exceptions for LEO's, college students living away from home, & for certain military personnel whose base is in a different state from their living quarters.

They are flat out breaking the law. If the ATF ever checks their bound books, they're boned.
