.223 Load Suggestions Please
I am a veteran reloader and am getting ready to load for the .223 Remington in a bolt action rifle. I am wanting to stay in the 40-50 grain range with a preference for 50. I am looking for a good combo of accuracy and velocity. I've already achieved 3/4" groups with factory 55gr loads. I will be considering Sierra Blitzking, Hornady V-Max and Nosler Ballistic tip bullets as well as any other good suggestion. Thanks for input.

I have loaded lots of .223, and I like H335 powder. For the 50gr bullets the Speer manual suggests starting with 25.0 gr of H335 that will yield 2975 fps, and a max charge of 27.0 gr moving at 3262 fps.

My Ruger M77MkII V/T has a decided preference for the Speer 52 gr BTHP's with 27.0 gr Varget and a CCI BR4 primer, all in Federal cases. These bullets are moly coated.

Don't know what twist your barrel has but I have had excellent results with 27.5 to 28 grains of W-748 over a 40 grain hornady v-max. This load range has shot well in numerous 223 rifles. Mine shoot well with 27.8 grs, and 28 grs is maximum in most manuals.-- Have also had good luck with 27.0 grs of AA2460 over the 40gr v-max. -- With 50gr Speer TNT bullets I load 27.5 grs of VARGET. This is a compressed load listed as max in the speer manual and the case is full to the top. Several guns have shot well between 27.0 and 27.5grs with this bullet ( it's inexpensive to shoot too -- Natchez has them on sale right now for 69.95 for a thousand ).Good Luck......... [8D] 0 -
Here's a few, 40 gr Hornady V-Max, Win case Win small rifle primer, and 27.4 gr of aa2468 power, next load is 50 gr Nosler bt, Win case, Win small primer, and 25 gr of Ramshot X-terminato. Good luck with the project [:D]

Thanks for the suggestions, I bought some H 335 and a couple of brands of 50gr bullets. They are loaded and ready for the chronograph and accuracy testing on the next mild day. I'm sure I'll have to tweak the load some, but I've got enough to start. My goal is 3300fps or above and 3 shot 1/2" group at 100yds. 0 -
27.0 varget, CCI br4, 50 gr speer TNT will get it done for you. Old06, how do you get a large rifle primer in a 223? If I push hard enough for them start into the primer pocket, they keep going off......

Richbug, I appreciate the Varget suggestion and will get that as well, because I has already considered it for my 7mm/08 too. 0 -
50 GR Hornady V-Max in front of 22gr of iMR 3031. 0 -
Well this is what I use in my .223 for best accuracy. First my rifle is a 223 vls with a 23.75" heavy barrel(The chamber has been redone from what my gunsmith and I can tell). It has a 1 in 12 twist. A VXII 4x12x40 rests on top of it. This rifle prefers 26grs of win748 behind a 52gr sierra match king hpbt. I use federal small rifle bench primers. I can have ten shots touch in side of a .5 inch hole at 100 yrds. This load is crusing at around 3200fps at the muzzel. Hope this helps. I am going to try a new powder out. It is called 10x. I have not seen any loads for it but it sounds promising.
