best 9mm pistol for plinking and target shooting?

ok looking for opinions on what 9 mm pistol is reliable and decently accurate .in other words the best 9mm for the money? this can be a full sized gun ,not going too be used for cc.price limit $400.thanks don

    Look at one of the Ruger's and can be had cheaper. I never had one problem and is accurate enough and I would buy another in a second.

    I believe that Ruger and maybe Taurus make revolvers which have an interchangable cylinder. This lets them be shot in 9mm, 38spl & 357. If plink'n and target shooting are the main intended use, then a revolver may be worth considering.

    If your just talking plinking then Ruger or Taurus semi's would fit the bill just fine. If your going to try serious target shooting your going to have to move into a lot more money than you say you want to spend.

    Those revolvers chambered in 9mm are more accurate than semi's which are basically "service pistols" where 4 inch groups can be the norm. Ruger chambered the SP-101 and Speed Six in that cal. Smith & Wesson did the 547 (out of your price range) and the 940 (might find one in your stated range) Ruger also makes single actions with switch cylinders and they are good shooters.

    If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

    Check out the FEG PJK-9HP its around $259.00 new in box and is a close copy of a Browning Hi-Power.They are very well made and surprisingly accurate pistols.

    I purchased a Walther P1 (P38) off the internet a couple of months ago, like new, for less than $300.00. (yeah, $299.95). Another discounter is offering NEW P1's for the same price. I've found this pistol to be as accurate as my 9mm Sig P239 which surprised me somewhat. The Walther is top quality, has great white dot sights, very reliable, and a pleasure to shoot. Also it's a great conversation piece. I wouldn't hesitate to use it for plinking, target shooting, (not professional level obviously) or for home defense.. It's a great firearm.[:)]

    Shop around for something used. A somewhat worn high quality gun can usually be bought and/or traded for. I see used Berettas in the $400 range if you look around.

    U COULD PROBALLY FIND A USED BERRETA 92FS FOR ABOUT THAT PRICE RANGE THEY ARE PRETTY GOOD GUNS

    go with the beretta ,it will retain the most resale value


    ruger revolvers are great ,i remeber the day they released their first p-89 ,they shoot ok ,but they are just to bulky ,feel like a heavy toy ,and don't retain their resale value

    The M-9 is a good pistol. I have both M-9 and M-40. Accuracy is under 3 inches. And I occassionaly use one or the other in IDPA matches where the course of fire is less favorable to revolvers, or on days when I want to just blaze away.

    The big thing are the sights ... they will take some getting used to if you want to do any precision plinking or general target work.

    However, with all said and done the Steyr's probably will have less resale value than other pistols you could buy because they are not as widely known, etc. etc.

    If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

    Find yourself a Taurus PT99. It has adjustable sights, 5 inch barrel, and you can get one new for around $400 or used in the low $300.00s.
