How does Taurus rate overall in quality of pistols

I am just curious. A friend of mine asked this recently. I have never shot one. I have always been partial to Rugers, but I will try his out at the range. Any feedback is welcome, particularly on .22 handguns made by Taurus. How long have they been in business?

    Myself, I think they make great firearms. I was once a S&W fan, when I started boycotting S&W, looked into Taurus revolvers. Glad I did. One of the best for the money out there. Myself, I'd rate them above Ruger, probably just under S&W, if not as good. But then again, I am boycotting Ruger for their anti-gun contributions as well. They (Taurus) recently bought out Rossi. The new Rossi's are nice, too.

    The Taurus' I have seen have all been nice looking and of good quality.They have alot in their line you dont find anywhere else.Like a snub nose double action .45Colt revolver,I havent seen anyone else offer that.I personally feel they are a great company always pushing further and offering new products that come about from trying new things and talking to shooters.I also feel they are dominating the carry gun market with guns like the 617,PT111,PT140,PT145 and the other various snub nose cannons they offer like .44special,.41Magnum,.45Colt.They also offer a 8Shot large frame revolver in .357 Magnum that I personally feel looks alot better than Smith & Wessons very exspensive Performance Center.They make fine Semi-Auto's and excellent revolvers.For the Rossi's I have recently purchased a 971 4" .357Magnum and it is very good.I have fired many SMith&Wesson revolvers and this Rossi has an extremely nice action and is very accurate.It came with alot of features all for very little money.They make some fine products.Up there with the best of them and for alot less money than most.I personally would also rate them past Ruger.By a long shot in Auto-Loaders and only because of trigger pull and smoothness in revolvers.

    I enjoy Taurus handguns, I own a few in .357. I think that thier efforts with titanium frames really lit a fire in the concealed carry market and everyone else was/is forced to play catch up. I enjoy shooting them, I trust them and regularly carry my titanium 2'' bbl 7 shot .357 made by them. However I have attempted to get a catolague from them on no less than four occassions off of the internet and I have never recieved one. Which makes me wonder just a little bit how thier customer service would be if I ever needed to take advantage of it.

    I bought a model 94 in 22lr a week or so ago. The blue is so dark, it is almost black in color. i shot the crap out of it over the weekend, close to 1000 rounds, everything from colbri, to shorts, longs and stingers. not a single malfunction. My biggest gripe is that the grips are too small for my hands, and it needs a trigger job as it has a litigation grade trigger. Parts are on the way. I tried one of the trackers, but couldn't get over the funky grips. for $238 out the door I won't complain too much. I was going to buy a S&W 617 10 shot, but it was going to cost twice as much, and didn't look as well finished.

    Years ago they were basically a "cheap gun" company and that's what they put out, but that's been behind them for years now. I think their "bread and butter" model has been the 85 even with all of the guns that they catalog.

    I have a couple of 'em and I enjoy shooting them. The 12 inch bbl. 17HMR is a fun shooter and if worse came to worse it would make a fair club. The 41 mag. M415 is a handful, but, it's not ment to shoot every day or even shoot a lot. You can get through a qualifier w/ it and still have feeling in most of your hand. The 45 APC is probably my favorite and that goofy ribbed grip which felt a little strange at first soaks up recoil. Also everyone that tries it says that the pistol "fits their hand" well and we're talking all different hand sizes.

    These are not collector pieces, but they are good pistols and revolvers and very good prices.

    I to wish they would make a 10mm revolver so I could give my SW 610 a rest or at least a backup as it is one of the guns I still compete with.

    If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

    I have had several taurus handguns. From the 9mm millenium (great c.c. carry gun by the way) to a 4inch 44 mag. I have never had a problem with any of them. I would say they are as reliable as a ruger and as accurate as the good smith and wessons. Probably just a shade cheaper than the rugers new and a heck of a lot cheaper than the smiths.

    I think Taurus makes a good gun. I have 2 a Model 92 in 9mm and a model 85 2" stainless .38 I shoot the daylights out of the 92 and have never had a problem

    I have a model 85 blue/alloy in .38 special that I'm very happy with. Relatively accurate, reliable, light and durable. D/A only with bobbed hammer. Very good value and way more accurate than my S/W 3913 auto.

    ....I never met a gun I didn't like!

    i own the titanium .357 magnum and the millenium 9mm i like them both over all good quality. i'd buy another for sure.thats just me TIM
