US&S 1911A1 marked SILECIA

Right side of trigger guard directly below frame is stamped in a semi circle SILECIA,Is this one that was issued to the German Police after the war?

Is it possible that the marking is "SILESIA" rather then "SILECIA"?

If the marking is SILESIA, then it's a West German arms dealers trade mark that dates to at least the 1960's.

I have seen Browning High Powers with the same marking.

Don't believe, it represents any police or para-military use. Just commercial sale.

Mr, neal: You made me think. The ser# is US&S, Thank You All.There is a P proof on the frame but not on the slide.Is this important? Tommy 45 Auto

The "P" on the frame is standard for U.S. Military M1911A1s....they were never proofed on the slide.

I believe that after the war the German police were issued P.38s....most likely with the "svw" code.

The only 1911s that I know of that were issued to Germans were from the Norwegian Konigsberg Vappensfabrik produced by the Germans during their occupation of Norway during WWII.

Well, actually, most 1911A1's were stamped with a proof P on the slide.

US&S pistols up to approximately 1060000 did not have a P on the frame or the slide; above that, a P was stamped on both (the die & impression will match). The frame & slide must always match, either with or without a P; Tommy's gun is a mismatch. That IS important.
