Tikka Rifles (sako)

Friend of my dads is trying to sell me his Tikka 7mm Rem Mag (White tail I think he said). I have went to the corporate web site (not much help there) trying to determine if this rifle is of good sound construction. Any issues I might need to be aware of, from what I have found it appears to be a well built arm, but I know of no one who own one to clarify.

Should I pick this one up or pass on it.

    They are a good rifle at the price. Made by Sako for a different sector of the market. There was a good article in American Rifleman last year about Tikka. I reckon they are one of the better rifles in the general market. Not for the elite at astronomical prices. I'm currently waiting to get my hands on one.

    I had a Tikka whitetail hunter in a 25-06 and it was nice. My 12 year old flinched when he shot it so we went down to a .243 instead but the Tikka was fine.

    I think it was Field and Stream that called the Tikka T-3 the rifle of the year. I have never heard anything bad about a Tikka but have heard a lot of good. My next rifle will be a Tikka T-3.

    They are very accurate as they promise 1" groups or it does not leave the factory.

    Only thing you have to watch for is a lot of jealousy if you get a great price.[:)]

    Its a Good rifle and very well made for the price, The ONLY draw back
    is you have to use the Sako/Tikka Scope mount/ring system which could be expensive and hard to get in some places But is as srtong as the
    Ruger set up for which i am a huge fan of.As Xracer said if the price is right Jump on it[;)]

    Sako's integeral base, and ring design is absolutely fabulous.
    Simple, and super strong. Perhaps the strongest ever made.

    Tikka's is a spin off, just straight rails vs reverse taper of Sako's.

    Leupold, Burris, Warne, Lynx/Hilliver, are all very reasonably priced, well built, and easily available.
    Ranging in price from $25-75 depending on finish.

    The Opti Lok ring by Sako/Tikka is an spin off from Burris Signature.
    Again, a marvelous product.
    Prices ranging from $30-65, and easily available.

    Friend bought a Whitetail Hunter at the same time I got a TRG-s. His was 30-06, mine was a 300WinMag. His has the wood stock and 8-32x40 Simmons Whitetail in black granite matte, mine has the NRA Leupold 3-9x40 and synthetic stock. I like 'em both, but I think his kicks harder with 220gr bullets than mine. Very well-made rifles, bolts are smooth as snot on a gold tooth, both shoot amazing groups, both were under $500.

    Dang it Roughrdr. You got me fired up and I went and bought a Tikka T3 Syn Stock/blued barrel in a 7mm. I got it for $440 delivered.

    Guns & Glass. I am going to put a S&B scope 3-12x50 that has Talley 30 mm rings and bases on it for a rem BDL. Can I just get new bases for the Tikka or would I have to get another set of rings? I am assuming the bases for a rem BDL will not fit the Tikka. Thanks.

    You'll be happy with that T3[;)] should come with rings or you can put a traditional base on it if you prefer. I think Burris and Warne offer them. I just used the stock ring set up, but may change them later.

    Looked it over 2day, wood stock, no scope (darn it), looks to have seen better days. Action was smooth as said, really nice. asking 350 plus the spare ammo, dies, and hard case.

    I have a Tikka in 30.06. Have it topped with a Weaver 3x10 scope , Sako rings. It shoots like a dream. Very good rifle for the money. Great hunting rifle, easy to carry. Recoil is very light. I shoot hand loads with 180gr Speer bullets. If the price is right you can't go wrong with a Tikka rifle

    It's possible.
    If the Rem bases were the narrow target base style then all you need is a Warne Premier, 7.3 style base (their the same) for the Tikka, and you can use the rings.
    If you have trouble finding the base, email me as I have them.
