Marlin Model 45 ACP

can anyone help me find the ballistic info on this rifle , all I can find is the info on the handgun .

    Several of the reloading manuals list the .45ACP as used in a carbine in their rifle sections.

    The cartridge is designed for pistol use, so other than notable accuracy improvements don't expect a lot of improvement in velocity and thus terminal performance.

    Although, to my knowledge, no one has ever done this I suspect that if testing was done by reducing say an 18 inch barrel in 1 inch increments, recrowning the barrel and firing with a chrony at the same distance from the muzzle, the results would show that the velocity peaks between 12 and 14 inches. I suggest this because I have shot one of my 1911's across the screens, then my TC Contender with a 10 inch barrel and there was noticable and repeatable velocity improvements, which I suspect may not be at the peak, but I don't have any contender barrels in that cal. that are any longer.

    Lastly, if you hand load you can tweek the cartridge to provide higher performance in the longer barrel (carbine) lengths. But once the peak has been reached (at whatever length that may be) then it will decline because of drag imposed on the bullet from the remaining barrel length.

    Hrmmmm, I think you're just going to have to record the ballistic information on your own, I don't know where you're going to find ballistic info on a Marlin Camp 45.

    a 16 inch barrel .45acp of any mfg should get you real close to what you are looking for. I have a 9mm carbine. I am getting 400 fps faster out of my 16 inch barrel than I do out of my 4.5 inch hand gun. My 2 cents [8D]

    What kind of velocities are 45's getting out of the Thompsons? Would that help?

    230 gr. jacketed, 10 inch bbl. 1125-50

    185 gr. jacketed, 10 inch bbl. 1360-85
