M1 Garand
I just got a correct grade M1 from CMP. I don't know a whole lot about them, I field stripped it and cleaned it by using the instructions included. Everything looks great. I was wondering though, the instruction say I should have it looked over by an experienced gunsmith before firing. Is this just a c.y.a. statement, aren't these rifles headspaced and test fired? I just purchased my first Springfield M1 Garand at a gun show. It is an arsenal rebuild and I probably paid too much for it. but it is a piece of history. The action is dated 1942 and the barrel is 1950. The stock on the riffle is UGHY Beach or Burch and needs to be replaced. My question is should I look for an old military stock w/proof marks and cartouches or just find one from Gunparts or Boyds? If someone knows where to find a military at a good price let me know? 0 -
That was the name of a major importer of surplus M1 garands during the 1980's. Most of the rifles they imported came from Korea and quality was a mixed lot at best. Unless you really know your way around the M1 service rifle, I'd use extreme caution when looking at a Blue Sky M1 for possible purchase.

The importer that re-imported the weapon into the states. Noted for using a 10,000 lb. ram press to imprint their name and address.

I surely lucked out when I picked up a Blue Sky Garand a few years ago. I paid $289 for it in 2001 because the gun dealer said it was imported junk. Everything was numbered matched Winchester in VG + condition except for the stock that had mismatched wood but it is a lot better condition than some of the CMP Garands I have seen on the range.
Pack slow, fall stable, pull high, hit dead center.

[:D]Hey, 101--P3 was just joking about the power of the press![:D] The basis for the joke is that their logo was stamped into the metal so deeply that some folks claim the barrels were squashed out of round to oval. I never personally encountered the problem. Back when these rifles and carbines were imported the DCM (now the CMP) would only sell you one M1 Rifle per customer per lifetime, so the Blue Sky imports were welcome indeed! Great source for "shooters" and in some instances, when the guns had been used to death, they were great to rebuild with the then-plentiful supply of original G.I. parts. I had several--some had shot-out bores, all had some Korean-made replacement parts (both metal and wood), and few were pretty. I've still got a couple of the better ones, and did retain both a rifle and a carbine of Winchester manufacture, although they are a mixed bag of parts. I agree with Mark that you should know what you're looking at, and look it over carefully, but I would not necessarily rule out buying it if it checks out o.k. Very few were collector items, but if you want an M1 to shoot they are as good as any other. 0
